Challenge
Replacing Manual Preceptorship Training with a More Flexible System
The client — a learning services company — needed a platform to replace a traditional preceptorship model that relied heavily on direct, in-person contact between mentors and students, alongside paper-based materials and manual coordination. That approach was time-consuming to run and difficult to scale across a distributed workforce.
The new platform needed to work for users without a strong technical background, and it needed to make training and assessment genuinely flexible — accessible regardless of where mentors and trainees were located or what their schedules looked like on any given day.
Solution
Creating a More Accessible Training and Examination Workflow
Alverden built a platform that made training and examination workflows less dependent on location and fixed schedules. The goal was to give both sides of the learning relationship — mentors and students — the ability to engage with content, assessments, and feedback at times that worked for them.
Learners could access training materials and exams across iPhone, iPad, and PC with minimal friction. Mentors could create educational content and review submitted work whenever time allowed, without needing to be in the same place or coordinate around a shared calendar.
The platform brought together educational unit management, online exam delivery, meeting coordination, event notifications, personal planning tools, and performance tracking — covering the full range of what a preceptorship programme needs to run without manual overhead.

Four core capabilities that defined the platform and shaped the training experience.
Training Content Management
Create and manage educational units across medical disciplines, organised by subject area. Mentors can build and update course materials at their own pace, independently of learner schedules or physical location.
Online Exams and Grading
Run digital exams across multiple disciplines and manage the review and grading workflow in the platform. Mentors can assess submitted work when time allows, without requiring synchronised sessions.
Scheduling and Notifications
Coordinate tutorials, exams, and meetings through built-in scheduling. Participants receive notifications about upcoming events, reducing the need for manual reminders or separate communication channels.
Performance Tracking and Planning
Set up personal learning plans for individual mentors and students. Review progress data over time to understand how learners are developing and where additional attention may be needed.

How It Improved Training Delivery
The delivered platform gave medical training programmes a more flexible and consistent way to manage learning. By consolidating training content, assessments, scheduling, and performance data in one place, it reduced the manual coordination that the previous approach required.
